Illuminating the Roots of Our Industry: The Lighting Up Lives Initiative
At the Coconut Alliance, we believe that a thriving industry starts at the source. Our Lighting Up Lives program is more than a charitable endeavor—it is a long-term investment in the families and communities who make the coconut industry possible.
Originally launched in June 2021, the program began by providing solar-powered lighting to farming households in the Philippines. Since then, it has evolved into a holistic support system. From ensuring children have the tools to succeed in school to providing critical healthcare and agricultural training, the Coconut Alliance is dedicated to brightening the future of every farming family we reach.
“Coconut farmers are the lifeblood of this industry,” says Coconut Alliance Executive Director Len Monheit. “Lighting Up Lives is designed to uplift the entire ecosystem—not just individuals—through targeted education, sustainable resources, and unwavering community support.”
Our Journey of Impact
What began as a mission to bring light to homes without electricity has blossomed into an annual initiative that empowers the next generation of farmers and strengthens the global coconut category.
- 2021 | Bringing Light: We successfully installed solar panel systems in the homes of nearly 400 farming families. For the first time, these households could safely cook, read, and study long after the sun went down.
- 2022 | Nurturing the Future: The Coconut Alliance expanded its reach to support over 70 children of coconut farmers, providing a full year of school supplies, nutritional support, and essential protection from the elements.
- 2023 | Empowering Growth: Focusing on the Brgy. San Francisco community in Quezon Province, we set a bold mission to provide high-efficiency tools, organic fertilizers, and healthcare access to drive long-term prosperity.
Our Core Initiatives
Modernizing Farm Productivity
To ensure the longevity of the trade, the Coconut Alliance provides comprehensive training for both current and aspiring farmers. We focus on modern maintenance techniques and the safe, effective use of professional harvesting tools to increase safety and efficiency.
Advancing Organic Cultivation
Sustainability starts in the soil. We educate farming families on the production and application of organic fertilizers. By moving toward natural inputs, the Coconut Alliance helps farmers improve soil health and significantly increase their annual crop yields.
Cultivating Backyard Independence
We empower families to achieve food security right in their own backyards. Through the distribution of “starter kits” and training in cultivation and harvesting, the Coconut Alliance helps families grow their own produce, creating a secondary source of nutrition and stability.
The Coco Health Card
Health is the foundation of productivity. This project grants coconut farmers and their families consistent access to medical professionals and essential medicines. The program includes routine check-ups and the provision of quarterly maintenance medications at no cost to the farming family.
